Description
NAD+ levels in the bloodstream are determined by a delicate balance between production and consumption. By providing Nicotinamide Riboside (NR), a direct precursor to NAD+, NR 1000™ helps boost the production of NAD+.
Together, this highlights that a multi-target strategy for NAD+ restoration such as the use of a precursor in combination with inhibitors and/or activators acting at other key points in the NAD+ network may be the optimum approach to NAD+ restoration.
NR is a naturally occurring molecule found in all cells. It is a precursor for NAD+, which is an important molecule for:
- Energy production
- DNA repair
- Regulation of genes
- Cellular health and vitality
- Immune function
- Regulation of the sleep-wake cycle
Preventing NR Degradation is Essential
Research has shown that NAD+ precursors are largely degraded in the stomach and small intestine to other metabolites that are not as effective.
In a study, the fate of labeled NR was monitored in mice with and without gut bacteria following oral administration. The findings revealed a substantial breakdown of NR by gut bacteria into various metabolites, illustrated in the figure below.
The blue bars represent orally administered NR that has been labeled for detection. In regular mice (Reg NR), a portion of the labeled NR is converted into NAM, NA, and NAR in the colon’s lumen. However, in mice without gut microbiota (GF NR), the conversion of NR to NAM, NA, or NAR is reduced or completely halted, suggesting that gut microbiota plays a significant role in breaking down NR.
Safeguarding NR 1000 From Digestion in the Stomach
Several delivery systems have been developed to protect NAD+ precursors from being broken down and enhance their bioavailability (how much of a substance is absorbed into the bloodstream and can be used by the body).
In other products, we use advanced Liposomal technology, to protect NAD+ precursors from degradation in the GI tract and liver, but this delivery system adds significant cost.
Enteric Capsules Naturally Protect NR 1000™
NR 1000 provides 1000 mg of NR in enteric (acid resistant) capsules that protect the ingredients from harsh stomach acid and early breakdown by gut bacteria. The delayed release of NR ensures optimal absorption and efficiency.
The enteric capsules are naturally resistant to acid, meaning there is no need for harsh chemicals for maximum protection and enhanced stability:
- Delayed release
- Resistant to gastric acids and ultimately disintegrated in the small intestine
- Low moisture content
- Stability over a wide range of temperatures and humidity
